Find a Recycler

Information for ATFs

Electric ELVES: the programme for industrial batteries from hybrid, electric and mild hybrid vehicles.

Have you accepted an electric/hybrid/mild hybrid vehicle for dismantling?

  •         Are you and your staff aware of the high voltage these vehicles contain?
  •         Do you need information on how to safely dismantle these vehicles?

Under the Electric ELVES programme an ATF can call ELVES when they accept a hybrid, electric or mild hybrid vehicle. We will then direct you to the appropriate source of information to support your handling of the vehicle. The programme provides for the free collection and recycling of the batteries if required. The programme is open to all ATFs, not just those in the ELVES Network.

Programme documentation has been distributed to ATFs and copies can be found below:

Training on the Safe Handling of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles for ATFs

ELVES have now facilitated free training in the Safe Handling of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles to over 90 participants around Ireland. The training days, provided by Salvage Wire Ltd, have been provided in Dublin, Naas, Galway, Co. Monaghan, and Cork (2).

The sessions are aimed at ATFs currently operating in the sector and our objective is to ensure that they have the expertise and know-how to effectively manage electric and hybrid vehicles.  With the popularity and growth potential of electric/hybrid vehicles in Ireland and the defined issues there are when managing them at the end-of-life stage, it is crucial that all those working in the industry are fully confident and competent in dealing with these vehicles.

ELVES, through its Electric ELVES programme, will be planning further training days for 2020. The training is open to all ATFs in the Republic of Ireland, free of charge. To register for your interest in an upcoming training day contact Elaine Hatton at
